Man shot breaking up robbery attempt in Cocoa

from floridatoday.com:

"

A 41-year old Brevard County man was shot twice Sunday after jumping in the back of a pickup truck carrying two men that had just tried to break into his truck.

At about 4:30 p.m., staff working at Cara Mia restaurant on Riverside Drive saw two men trying to break into their co-workers truck, Cocoa Police said.

The truck's owner, Tim Raut, ran outside and confronted the two men. The suspects ran to their truck to get away.

Raut jumped into the back of the full-sized dark blue or black Dodge pickup truck, which headed south on Riverside Drive.

One of the suspects shot at Raut with a handgun, hitting him once in the arm and once in the hip.

Raut fell from the back of the truck, about 200 yards south of the restaurant, police said. He was conscious at the scene and was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cocoa Police Department or Crimeline at 1-800-423-tips.

“They said the injuries were not life-threatening,” Cocoa Police spokeswoman Barbara Matthews said."
