"A DeLand man is facing several criminal charges after pulling a box cutter on a deputy Friday night, Volusia County authorities say.
Sheriff's Office deputies, arriving at the scene of a reported car crash, instead found paramedics trying to waken Daniel Villaverde, 33, who was unresponsive behind the wheel of his car, which had struck a stump in the parking lot of a DeLand business.
Deputies say Villaverde smelled of alcohol, and beer cans were found inside his car.
When Villaverde awoke, a deputy ordered him out of the car. But Villaverde instead pulled out a metal box cutter and pointed it at the officer. Villaverde was subdued, and no one was injured.
Villaverde was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail. He faces several charges, including DUI and aggravated assault on a law-enforcement officer."
