Police: Palm Bay boy, 8, brought knife to school, threatened teacher

"
An 8-year-old Palm Bay boy was taken into custody today after officials said he brought a knife to school and threatened to kill a teacher.
The disturbance happened about 9 a.m. at the Discovery Elementary School at 1275 Glendale Ave. No lockdown was ordered.
Palm Bay police did not charge the boy, but forwarded the case to the state attorney’s office for a review. The unidentified student was sent to Circles of Care for mental evaluation and observation under provisions provided by Florida’s Mental Health Act, officials said.
The act, commonly referred to as the Baker Act, allows officials to have a person involuntary examined if they find evidence that the person has a mental illness or is a harm to themselves or others.
“The student had threatened to kill another student the day before and bragged that he could sneak a weapon onto campus,” said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Palm Bay Police Department.
Today, the same student brought a leather-bound knife to campus, this time making more threats.
“The weapon was found without incident,” said Christine Davis, spokeswoman for the Brevard County School District."
